CATCH SUCCESS: 7 Life Lessons That FISHING Teaches You

Lessons That FISHING Teaches You

You never know what’s at the end of the line, but keep fishing.

Commonly considered as a job by many people, fishing is actually underrated leisure for some. It is often tagged as ‘boring’ because when you go fishing, literally, you will just go fishing.

But it’s amazing how many people are loving this activity as a hobby or as a sport. In various tourist destinations, there are some travel and tour packages that include fishing as an island recreation. Definitely, it is tremendously enjoyed because of the thrill it gives to people before they eat their fresh seafood and because of the outstanding health benefits it offers as well.

Fishing takes you outside of your comfort zone and into the middle of vast moving waters (or beside them sometimes), so you can take on some out-of-the-box adventure. Wholesome indeed, it enhances your concentration, lessens your stress and relaxes your mind and body. It disconnects you from the digital world and connects you to the natural life.

Speaking of life, fishing teaches you loads of eye-opening things about the life you have! It surely makes one realize many truths about the goals and the successes that people are targeting in life. Fishing seems like ‘just fishing’, yet it’s more than just that!

Here are 7 life lessons that fishing teaches you! Keep reading, and you will want to go fishing next.

1 – TIMING ABSOLUTELY MATTERS.

TIMING ABSOLUTELY MATTERS.

Before you go fishing, you must know the best time to do so.

It depends on the city or country you are in because the seasons, the wind and the weather vary. The water temperature is another huge basis of marine creatures’ activity. Sometimes, you have to go early in the morning, late in the evening or sometime in between. And don’t forget about the tides! Timing absolutely matters.

Fishing teaches you that you cannot simply push forward and keep moving as you personally like, just so you can make progress in your aims. The world does not revolve around you, and it won’t pause for you. Besides people and things, you have to cooperate with the golden time too.

You need to take timing into account; you can never ever disregard it. Even when you have everything you need in your hands to execute your plans, and you are ready, yet your timing is not right, they will be insufficient or, worse, useless.

When it’s not yet an ideal time to fish but you insist, you can most likely be sure to go home empty-handed. Being rash and reckless isn’t what you need. You are catching the fish and not the fish catching you.

Reality is that you are running after your goals and not your goals running after you. Value the perfect timing. It is one of the reasons why some things and situations have the best possible results. The best timing will prove that it is indeed the best.

2 – WAITING CAN BE SHORT OR JUST RIGHT BUT OFTEN, IT’S LONG.

WAITING CAN BE SHORT OR JUST RIGHT BUT OFTEN, IT’S LONG.

Those who experience fishing can never call ‘waiting’ an easy thing ever again.

Many first-timers in fishing call it a day before saying that it’s going to be their last time too. That’s because the waiting time drains all their energies and patience — yes, even when all they have to do is sit down or stand up and wait for a fish to bite the bait. Fortunately but rarely, some people spend only a few minutes before catching their first win!

In this aspect, fishing teaches you that waiting can sometimes be short or just right for the patience you have, yet often, it’s long — very long! It certainly tests your patience and diligence.

Like in fishing, waiting is one of the most difficult things in life, and that is even when you are doing nothing much while you wait. It’s a great pleasure when it turns out to be short or just bearable, yet it becomes a heavy burden when the waiting time stretches out up to who knows when.

Nonetheless, you really need to remain steadfast if you are determined to achieve your goal. Inevitable as it is, that is waiting.

3 – SOMETIMES, YOU MAY GET EXCITED FOR NOTHING, BUT IT’S FINE.

SOMETIMES, YOU MAY GET EXCITED FOR NOTHING, BUT IT’S FINE.

Only expert fishermen know when it REALLY is a fish that’s at the end of the fishing rod or nothing.

Here’s a scenario to make that clear. Sometimes, a rookie fisherman or a first-timer gets surprised and so excited that his rod is bent and is feeling heavy because that seems to indicate a catch. He’s prepared with excitement, yet the expert fisherman comes close, assists and says that the seabed caught it instead. Yup, it’s not a fish but the ground.

It’s a tiny disappointment right there, but it’s not something to be hugely sad about. Sure, it’s a bit embarrassing for being too excited, but it’s fine. Keep fishing.

In life, it’s similar. There are some situations or events when you get excited because you think you are already finished with accomplishing your goal, but you suddenly find out that there’s more to do. Sometimes, the moment you are near the finish line is the moment some more conflicts arise. Well, that’s life. If you are totally determined to succeed for real, you will still strive hard no matter the frustrations and disappointments along the way. It is not a piece of cake, yet the exclusive reward is for those who remain and persist.

4 – WHEN YOU FAIL, YOU CAN TRY AGAIN.

WHEN YOU FAIL, YOU CAN TRY AGAIN.

Nobody wants this to happen, but there are times when you really have to go home with zero catch if you catch zero.

Fishing is somehow a risk. It’s either a dinner plate full of freshly caught seafood or a transparent food box of store-bought seafood at the end of the day. You may actually spend a whole day and catch nothing. It’s tiring, isn’t it? It’s a failed fishing day. Yes it is! But the good thing is you can always try again — that is if you choose to.

There are many occasions in life when you are only given one chance, but there also are some when you can try and try again until you succeed! If you fail today, tomorrow is another day to get up and get going. And maybe, there are some things that you have to improve on, so you can do better next time.

When you are told to try again, that does not mean you totally failed. Well, you failed on that round only; there are many more rounds where you can win. That means you should not back down and not quit. Failing can be hurtful and upsetting, but don’t stay in those dim states for too long because you got to try again until you triumph!

5 – SUCCESS COMES AT THE RIGHT PLACE.

SUCCESS COMES AT THE RIGHT PLACE.

In fishing, you need to find a good spot where the fish will pass by, take the bait and get caught. You have to be at the place where the chances of succeeding is high or where success is exactly located.

If you try and try catching fish again yet get the same nothing again, maybe you are not in the right area of the boat or port, or maybe your boat itself is in the wrong spot of the sea.

Go move somewhere better. When you see no progress, maybe you are not where you are supposed to be. You either go for a trial-and-error or observe the location where other people are doing great!

Success comes at the right place, and you can’t be somewhere else far if you want to get it!

6 – HOLD ON ‘TILL THE END.

HOLD ON ‘TILL THE END.

Many people who are not used to fishing using a rod get easily exhausted and unmotivated, so they just give up. But one of the chiefest keys to successful fishing is holding on. When you hold onto the handle, you will feel when there’s a change happening (when a fish gets caught), and you will know when it’s time to pull.

Hold on tight ’till the end, and you will see how precious succeeding is! It may not be easy peasy, but the fruit is priceless!

7 – A SINGLE WIN IS STILL A BIG WIN.

A SINGLE WIN IS STILL A BIG WIN.

You will never really know how many fish and other sea animals you will catch in one fishing day. Sometimes, you will get only a single fish even after spending lengthy hours, but remember this: A single win is still a big win!

Imagine how that one fish will be transformed into the tastiest seafood you will ever know! Add to that the hard work you put into catching it. Oh, it’s so yummy!

Some people think that only those who have the most achievements are indeed the most successful ones, but do not underestimate even the single wins! Why? Because you never know how tough the seas may be towards reaching that single win! It may be just one in number but the efforts and dedication put into achieving it is worth one’s everything!
