10 Natural Remedies You Can DIY At Home During Dry Weather

Dry skin, stripped of its moisture, is a common phenomenon experienced by all of us during winters. And in a polluted city which experiences harsh weather all year round, keeping your skin velvety and flawless is quite the task. Whether it is lack of natural oils underneath the skin or consequences of hot showers, the skin suffers from dehydration causing irritation and infection.

Natural Remedies for Dry Weather

To avoid it, many dermatologists recommend natural home-made remedies over the expensive skin-care products available in the market for vibrant and happy skin. And the best part is – the ingredients for these home remedies might already be stacked on the shelves of your kitchen!

Scroll down for top 10 natural remedies you should try at home for soft and smooth skin.

1.Coconut Oil

An absolute boon to obtain a flawless skin is coconut oil that moisturizes your dehydrated heels and hands. Apply a few drops of coconut oil before going to bed and its emollient nature will hydrate your skin overnight, decreasing the dryness of the skin cells, thereby making it smoother than ever.

2.Milk Compress & Yogurt

Applying raw milk and yogurt on the skin also helps hydrate the skin effectively due to its natural anti-inflammatory properties and lactic content. Soak a wash-cloth in cold milk and place it over dry areas of skin for few minutes to keep your skin moisturized. Use yogurt as it kills dryness causing bacteria and germs in the skin, thereby restoring softer skin.

3.Olive Oil

One of the most trusted remedies for happy skin is olive oil. A natural cleanser and moisturizer, it does wonders for the suppleness of the skin. Apply a few drops on the skin before showering or simply add the olive oil to bathwater and bid goodbye to your dry skin.

4.Avocado Mask

To revitalize the dry skin, a homemade creamy avocado mask is yet another successful natural remedy. Apply a mixture of the mashed pulp of the avocado, a teaspoon of olive oil and few drops of honey on your face for 20 minutes and wash it off to get a nourished smooth skin. Regular moisturizer can also be applied upon removing the mask for an extra hydrating effect.

5.Oatmeal bath & scrub

Oatmeal keeps your skin silky smooth due to its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. “Adding oatmeal powder to your bath helps retain moisture and re hydrate your skin,” recommends a senior dermatologist. Alternately, oats can also be used to exfoliate skin and protect the natural skin barrier. A mixture of 2 tbsp of oats, with 1 tbsp of honey and a dash of water should be applied to the skin and washed off after 15 minutes to bring relief from dry skin.

6.Adding oil to bath

Bathing with dry soaps often results in stripping the skin of its natural moisture. To avoid this, a variety of oils including jojoba, argon and coconut oils can be added under the running bath water which forms a fine protective layer for the moisture present within the skin. On the other hand, you can also apply a small amount of oil after the bath instead for soft skin.

7.Olive oil and Sugar Scrub

An exfoliating scrub of olive oil and sugar is an excellent solution for getting rid of dead skin cells. A mixture of 2 teaspoons of olive oil and half teaspoon of sugar (lavender can also be added for fragrance) should be applied on the skin and later washed off for best results. You can also use a regular moisturizer afterwards for doubling up the benefits of exfoliated skin.

8.Fruit Enzymes

In harsh weather, fruit enzymes can prove to be just the remedy for smooth and healthy skin. Pumpkins, pineapple, banana and papaya-enzyme face wash greatly helps in exfoliating the topmost layer of your dead skin cells. Rubbing a banana peel on the flaky skin is also beneficial for treating dry skin. Applying a mixture of mashed papaya and honey on your face can restore the soft skin.

9.Aloe Vera

Considered to be a natural moisturizer, Aloe Vera is also useful in getting rid of dehydrated skin as it reduces irritation due to dryness. Aloe Vera gel works by releasing natural enzymes on your skin which help in restoring its pH level and suppleness.

 10.Honey and Almonds

Last but not the least, honey and almond are ideal choices for obtaining a happy smooth skin. Honey helps in trapping the moisture inside the skin and due to its antioxidants and antibacterial properties. Almond is quite effective in removing unwanted dead cells which in turn make way for a moisturized skin.
